May 15, 2012 (Hay Springs, Neb.) - A Hay Springs teacher has been honored for their commitment to teaching.
Alberta Olson of Hay Springs Public School has been awarded the Outstanding Teacher award from Great Plains Communications. The award, which is presented annually to a Nebraska teacher, was presented on May 15th at the school’s academic fair.
A teacher since 1965, she has had the chance to work with students from Kindergarten through the 8th grade. Recently, Hay Springs’ seniors selected her as the teacher who influenced them the most.
Olson graduated with her teaching degree from Chadron State College and has stayed in rural education throughout her career. She currently teaches Kindergarten, which is an age group she loves. Olson is a member of the Nebraska State Education Association, the National Education Association and the Nekota Reading Council.
“I love to be around young children and to see their educational growth. Kids love to learn at this age and think that their teacher is very special,” said Olson in her nomination form.
