These obstacles have made us more appreciative of the freedoms and blessings we enjoy. Our thoughts and prayers are with all U.S. service personnel during this time of conflict, but especially with those who are away from their families serving our country during this holiday season.

We wish each of our Internet customers a happy and safe holiday season. We truly appreciate your business and look forward to serving you in 2002.

E-Mail Virus Hoax - "Osama vs. Bush"

There's a new E-MAIL VIRUS HOAX which began circulating around the Internet last month. It refers to a supposed e-mail which contains the words "Osama Vs Bush" (within the e-mail's subject line) that will destroy your computer if the message is read. This e-mail warning is nothing more than an E-MAIL HOAX. If you receive this e-mail message, simply delete it ... do NOT forward it to your friends.

Below is the actual text of a version of the "Osama vs. Bush E-mail Hoax" that you may receive via e-mail.

There's a new virus which was found recently which will erase the whole "C" drive. If u get a mail with the subject "Osama Vs Bush", please delete that mail right away. Otherwise it will erase the whole C drive.

As soon as you open it, it asks "will this war affect the world economy?". If you click on any button, your system will be shut down and will never boot again. It already caused a major damage in the US, INDIA and few other parts of the world.

The remedy for this has not yet been discovered. So please forward this mail to as many people as possible and let everybody be aware of this.

Be Careful. I received this in the mail and am passing it along. I hope you and your computer stay healthy.

Remember, if you receive this e-mail message, simply delete it ... do NOT forward it to your friends.

Ask The Help Desk - Downloading Files While Surfing Online

Question: Can I surf the Internet and download files at the same time?

Answer:
Yes. You can browse around the Internet while simultaneously downloading a large freeware or shareware file. Keep in mind, however, that doing two things at once will slow down both procedures. Only so much information can be "pushed" through your modem at one time. Also, although most browsers will allow you to start more than one download task at a time, it's actually no faster to start more than one download at a time than it is to do one download right after another.

Short Tutorial - E-mailing Christmas Cards ... Placing Images Into Your Christmas E-mail Letter

Due to the recent anthrax threat, more people are choosing to send their Christmas cards via e-mail rather than through traditional mailing methods. However, many recipients are hesitant about opening e-mail attachments, even from friends, because of the viruses and worms floating around the Web. What to do? Why not create your own e-mail Christmas card by pasting images (family vacation photos, for instance) into the message pane of your holiday e-mail? It's a simple process. Of course, you must first have images on your computer's hard drive that you wish to send. You can scan images from photos, download them from a digital camera or the Internet, and some photo labs will supply you with a photo CD of film you have had processed. The best format for sending photos is jpeg (jpg) because it compresses them and takes less time to send. Now, to place an image into your e-mail using Outlook Express, follow these steps:

  1. Open Outlook Express.

  2. Create a new message and prepare it for sending by addressing, giving it a title (subject) and composing a message.

  3. Click your cursor arrow at the location where you'd like to place the photo within your message then click on "Insert" located on the Message Menu Bar. Select "Picture" from the resulting drop down menu.

  4. When the Picture Dialog Box appears, click the "Browse" button to locate the picture you want to send.

  5. Click on the picture's location to select it. Click "Open" to return to the Picture Dialog Box.

  6. Select from various options to alter the attributes on your photo, i.e. layout, alignment, border thickness, etc. You do not need to select them all.

  7. Describe the picture by typing text into the "Alternative Text" field. This will allow the e-mail recipient to at least see a description of the photograph if he/she has a "text only" e-mail program.

  8. Click "OK" once you've completed your settings.

  9. Complete your message and click "Send."
