E-Mail Hoax - Beware of E-mail Charity Scams

Charity scams are without a doubt the most repugnant forms of dishonesty circulating online in the wake of the recent terrorist attacks on the United States. These unsolicited bulk e-mail scams attempt to take advantage of the public's desire to help the victims of the September 11th terrorist attacks and their families. Typical fraudulent messages often times claim to be part of a "Victims Survivor Fund" or an "Express Relief Fund." Here's a few helpful tips for your protection:

Ask The Help Desk - Sound Alert When Receiving An Incoming E-mail

Question: Is there a way to be automatically notified by a sound from my computer when I've received an incoming e-mail? If so, please advise me regarding how this works.

Answer:
Yes, there's an easy method to set this up. Click your cursor arrow on the Windows "Start," then on "Settings" and click on "Control Panel." Next, double click the "Sounds" icon. In the "Sounds Properties" window, scroll down the "Events" pane until you find the "New Mail Notification" item and then click the "Browse" button to locate a sound file you would like to use. Clicking on the various sound files will give you a demonstration of the "noise" made by the file. Hit "OK" when you've found the sound you'd like to use. Click "Apply" and then "OK" to exit the "Sounds Properties" window. Next time you have mail, your special e-mail sound will play.

Short Tutorial - Reading Web Pages With Dark Backgrounds Made Easy!

Have you ever gone to a web page and found the text difficult to read because the page's background is black? To make matters worse, some websites use dark blue or dark red for their text colors. This seems to be especially true for many sci-fi related websites.

A simple trick next time you come to a web page like this is to hit CTRL-A on your keyboard. This will highlight (select) the entire page. The background color will most likely turn a light shade of blue and the text will show as white. The result is still not ideal but it's better than dark blue text on a black background, right? Make Captain Kirk happy and give it a try!
