E-Mail Virus Hoax - Valentine's Day E-mail Virus Hoax

There are several common e-mail virus HOAXES that have circulated around the Internet during February for the past 2-3 years. This year should be no different. Each of these hoaxes warn of a dangerous virus that will basically destroy an e-mail recipient's computer if the recipient reads a particular e-mail message related to Valentine's Day. The e-mail hoaxes, of course, also encourage people to forward the warnings to as many people as possible to "get the word out."

As of this writing, there are no known Valentine related e-mail viruses "on the loose" which are destroying computers across the World Wide Web. If you receive a warning from someone regarding a Valentine's Day Virus, simply delete the message. Do not forward the warning to friends, family, mailing lists, etc.

FYI – The three most famous e-mail virus hoaxes that contain a Valentine's Day theme are: "Valentine Greetings," "Valentine For You" and "Be My Valentine." Be on the watch for these hoaxes this month and if you receive one of them, delete it.

Ask The Help Desk - Stop Unwanted Web Pages From Loading

Question: Sometimes when I am browsing I inadvertently click on a link to go to a web page but immediately realize that it's not actually the page I wanted to open up. Do I have to wait for this page to fully load before selecting the correct link or is there a shortcut?

Answer:
There are actually a few solutions when this happens to you. If you've clicked on the wrong link and still have the left mouse button pressed down, simply drag the pointer off of the link to a blank spot somewhere on your computer screen and release your finger. The new page will not load.

If you've already selected (clicked and released your mouse button) on a link, hit the "Stop" button located on the toolbar of your web browser. This will stop the active page from fully loading. It will not, however, prevent any pop-up windows from appearing and fully loading.

Probably the quickest way to prevent a web page from loading once it's been selected is to hit the Escape Key ("esc") on your keyboard. This will prevent the inadvertently selected page from loading and will also prevent those pesky pop-up windows from appearing.

Short Tutorial - Revise the Way Contacts Are Listed In Your Address Book

The Address Book of Outlook Express automatically files contact names in alphabetical order listing the last name first, i.e. "Smith, John." Some people prefer to have their Address Book arranged alphabetically utilizing their contacts' first name. If you prefer the latter filing system, it's easy to switch.

Open up your Address Book by clicking on its button located on the toolbar. Under the "View" menu, drop down to "Sort by" and select "First Name." You can also choose "Ascending" which will sort from A to Z or "Descending" which will sort from Z to A. When you've made your selections, the list of contacts will immediately change to reflect your new choice.

The process is similar in Netscape Messenger. Open your Address Book and under the "View" menu, drop down to "Sort" and make your selection from the resulting submenu. While you can't sort by First Name, you can sort by other fields, i.e. by e-mail address and nickname.
