NETLINK's Anti Spam Policy

What is SPAM?

Spam is abuse of an e-mail service where a user sends unsolicited messages to one or more e-mail addresses with the intent of commercial advertising, harm, or for any other reason. Netlink does not permit such misuse of its e-mail server and will take action if necessary.

New Implementations

Netlink has implemented software in order to deter the possibility of SPAM through its mail server(s). Although this will not eliminate SPAM entirely, we believe it will eliminate the majority of the problem.

Why the new software?

SPAM and Mail Relay is considered to be "Theft of Service". Internet users do not pay their access fees for the purpose of being solicited. Since the original ARPAnet, the written rules of the Internet community (see the Netiquette RFCs and their precursors from Usenet) have required that we each refrain from intentionally soliciting other Internet citizens. Mail servers are judged and can be placed on an RBL, or Realtime Blackhole List, which means that the email server is friendly, or at least neutral, to spammers. Netlink wishes to comply with standards to avoid being placed on these lists and keep the Internet a friendly place. We will be closely monitoring the new software to make sure that we are in compliance with these standards. For more information on RBL’s, you can go to http://mail-abuse.org/rbl/.

New Policies

Netlink does not encourage, practice, or in any way support the use of it’s mail server for SPAM, Mail Relay or any other unsolicited e-mail. Netlink will use all resources available to prevent SPAM. If you are NOT connecting through Netlink you will not be able to use a Netlink e-mail account to send email to an outside domain, unless you first connect to the server and check for incoming mail. You will NOT be able to send an outbound e-mail that is larger than 2 Megabytes in size. You will NOT be able to send one email to more than 20 recipients at a time.

Penalties

These are the policies of Netlink. Failure to comply with these rules or any other rules may result in penalties up to and including termination of Internet service. If you have any questions or concerns you may call our Netlink Helpdesk staff at 1-800-734-7467 or email us at nsc@gpcom.net.
