The summer heat making you think that next year will definitely include a pool, or at least a few more shade trees?

It’s important to remember that dirt isn’t the only thing that you may be uprooting.  Cable and electrical wires may also be underground, and inadvertently cutting lines that hook up your neighbors’ cable and air conditioning could spark your own version of the Hatfields and McCoys.  Remember, even digging a few inches when installing a fence or deck could hit buried wires.

Avoid the stress by making sure that you call and have any potential problems identified before you dig.

For those in Nebraska, you should call the Digger’s Hotline of Nebraska at 1-800-331-5666. Once you call the hotline, your cable and utility providers will be able to move the lines BEFORE you dig.  While any inadvertent damage to wires isn’t usually charged to the homeowner, not calling puts you at risk of being liable for the damages.
