Soon picnic baskets and coolers will be overflowing, colorful smoke bombs will be used as bug repellent and family gatherings will be color-coded with red, white and blue. Fourth of July weekend is a time to celebrate the United States of America with family and friends through good food, fireworks and sunshine. With that in mind, Great Plains Communications has picked a few of our favorite recipes for the holiday weekend from our cable channel, Food Network.

Orzo Salad

This is a great substitution for the traditional potato or macaroni salad. The herbs, tomatoes and lemon dressing keep this dish light, while not over powering your main protein.

Easy Georgia Peach Cobbler

If you need a quick dessert that is sure to be a crowd pleaser, consider making Trisha Yearwood’s Easy Georgia Peach Cobbler. As she states in the video, you can use fresh peaches, but by using the can you get the sweetness from not only the peaches themselves but the juices as well.

Flag Cake

Looking for the perfect patriotic dessert to celebrate the holiday? Ina’s sponge cake is not only delicious with the vanilla cake and buttercream frosting playing off the tartness of the fresh berries, but it is sure to be the centerpiece of your table with the adorable flag design.

Great Plains Communications would like to wish you all a very happy Fourth of July. Remember to store kid approved fireworks in a separate location from bigger adult fireworks, so that everyone can enjoy a safe and wonderful weekend.
